What is a Virtual Instrument?

Virtual Instruments are computer programs that simulate scientific instruments. An image of the virtual instrument will appear on the computer screen. Students will manipulate dials, knobs, etc. of the instrument with a mouse.

Development of the virtual instruments

These educational tools are being developed through a partnership between the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, an anonymous donor, National Instruments, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and Texas A & M University. The software is being written by Dr. Kenith Meissner and his group at Texas A&M using the LabView software engine, donated by National Instruments.
