Electronic Resource Use

The UT Southwestern Medical Center Library provides access to many electronic resources (e.g., databases, electronic journals, etc.), and the use of these resources is governed by license agreements and is restricted to authorized users only.  Authorized users are defined as faculty, staff, students, residents, and fellows currently employed or registered at UT Southwestern as well as walk-in users of the UT Southwestern Library.

License agreements generally permit the following for personal or research use only (in accordance with Fair Use):

  1. Print limited amounts of data
  2. Download limited amounts of data
  3. Email search results or articles to self or another authorized user

License agreements generally prohibit the following:

  1. Print or download large amounts of data or an entire journal issue
  2. Retransmission of data to non-authorized users
  3. Any commercial use
  4. Preparation of a derivative work or incorporation into any other work or system
  5. Sharing of individual passwords

Publishers monitor use of their electronic resources. Abuse of license terms may result in termination of individual privileges or termination of campus-wide access to particular resources.

If you have questions about authorized uses of electronic resources licensed by UT Southwestern Medical Center Library, please contact Laurie Thompson, Director of Libraries, at 214.648.2626 or Laurie.Thompson@UTSouthwestern.edu.

Remote Use of Electronic Library Resources

UT Southwestern faculty, staff, and students are authorized to use many electronic resources from remote, non-campus locations (e.g., homes, offices, etc.) using acceptable remote access methods. For more information about those methods, please see the Library’s Off-Campus Access page.

If you do not find what you need, please call 214.648.2001, press "0" to reach the Information Desk, or view other contact methods under the Ask a Librarian section on this page.
