Who Can Use the Library?


Use of Library resources is restricted to activities in support of the educational, scientific, and clinical missions of the campus. UT Southwestern reserves the right to remove anyone who fails to adhere to these policies.


Authorized Library users may fall into one of the following categories:

  1. Students, faculty, and staff of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.
  2. Personnel from Parkland Health & Hospital System, Children’s Medical Center, and the Dallas County Forensic Science Department.
  3. Anyone who holds or is eligible for a valid UT Southwestern Library card (e.g., retired UT Southwestern faculty, TexShare cardholders etc).
  4. Patients (and patients’ family members) at the UT Southwestern University Hospitals or clinics, or at Parkland Health & Hospital System or Children’s Medical Center may be issued a one-day user card upon the written recommendation of their doctor.
  5. Students from any University of Texas campus or other university and high school students may apply for defined-term access to the Library.

Certain other categories of individuals may be allowed temporary access to the Library at the discretion of the library staff.
