The Siegwart Research Group uses a materials chemistry approach to tackle challenges in cancer therapy and diagnosis. We are currently focused on:
1) the development of improved materials for effective delivery of siRNAs to silence oncogenic proteins and miRNAs to restore tumor suppressor activity.
2) the discovery of imaging molecules that are invisible in normal tissue, and "turn on" in the tumor micro-environment.
Long-term, we aim to globally understand how the physical and chemical properties of materials affect interactions with biological systems in the context of improving cancer therapies.
