I.    Course Description:

Basic Life Support for Health Professions includes the skills of one and two rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), infant CPR, child CPR, and the management of obstructed airway for all age ranges. This course has a demonstration, skills practice, and has written and skills examinations for certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support includes the didactic information about the management of cardiac arrest including rhythm recognition, drugs, and protocols. The course also has skills practice for airway management including intubation, management of bradycardia, management of tachycardias, management of ventricular fibrillation, management of asystole, management of pulseless electrical activity, management of shock and heart failure, and use of defibrillators and automated external defibrillators. The course has a prerequisite of Basic Life Support for Health Professions. Examinations include a written examination, proper intubation, and being team captain for a cardiac arrest scenario. The student must pass each section for certification.
