Faculty Additions and Achievements

The Department is pleased to announce the addition of two new faculty members,
Dr. Babu Welch and Dr. Wengui Yu.  Dr. Welch completed his neurosurgical residency at George Washington University Medical Center and has interests in the surgical and endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disease. Dr.Yu completed his  residency at the University of Missouri followed by a year fellowship in Neurocritical Care at the University of California at San Francisco
. Dr. Yu becomes the Department's first Neurointensivist.

Neuro-oncology Center Established

The Annette G. Strauss Center for Neuro-oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, established several years ago, is dedicated to improving the treatment available for patients with tumors of the central nervous system as well as research aimed at understanding these tumors (for example, malignant and benign brain tumors and spinal cord tumors). Laboratory Facilities

The Department of Neurological Surgery has established a laboratory in the Cecil H.
and Ida Green Science Building dedicated to microvascular surgical training and research.

In the same building across the hall, the Mobility Foundation Center (co-directors
Duke Samson, MD, of Neurosurgery and
Phil Purdy, MD, of Interventional Neuroradiology) moved into a newly remodeled area, housing offices, a spacious conference room and a laboratory for neurovascular interventional training and research.
