WINKLER LAB |
The Winkler research laboratory is broadly interested in microbial
metabolism, RNA structure and function, and the biochemical underpinnings of genetic regulatory mechanisms. These seemingly disparate
fields of study overlap with the investigation of posttranscriptional
control in gram-positive bacteria, for which we utilize Bacillus subtilis
as a model organism. Our efforts to discover and characterize these
regulatory mechanisms will lead to improved strategies for the molecular
engineering of ‘designer’ genetic tools, as well as provide metabolic
insight into the function of the regulated genes. We use a combination of
biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetic experimentation in pursuit of
these goals.
