Catherine obtained her B. S. in Cell and Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Louisiana Tech University. Her undergraduate research involved utilizing RNA-based methods for detecting pathogens in foods, using molecular beacons and real-time NASBA for the monitoring of enterotoxin gene expression in B. amyloliquifaciens. This work was completed under the tutelage of Dr. John McKillip. She became interested in UT-Southwestern through her experience in the SURF program. She is currently interested in the regulation of gene expression by riboswitch RNAs.
